Created in 1921 by Ernest Beaux for Gabrielle Chanel, N°5 was the first fragrance to use aldehydes in abundance, giving it the sparkling, abstract opening that still defines it. The heart is a rich bouquet of May rose, jasmine and ylang-ylang.
The base settles into sandalwood, vetiver and vanilla for a warm, powdery dry-down that lasts through the day. The eau de parfum concentration is the fullest expression of the composition.
